Sunday 11th September will go down as a definite date to remember in Tees RC's history after Tees rower Laurence Whiteley and his partner Lauren Rowles took Paralympic Gold in the TAMix2x final in Rio.

Having already given us a taste of what they could do by storming through to win their heat in a new World Best Time, the crewmates controlled their final race from the start, pushing their main competition, the Chinese and French, into Silver and Bronze positions respectively, despite a strong push from the former in the last 250m.

The crew's achievement is made even more impressive when you consider they have only been training together for 18 months. Laurence spent two years waiting for a suitable partner to be found before Lauren finally came to the fore, having transitioned into rowing from wheelchair racing.

Needless to say we couldn't be more proud of our truly homegrown talent here at Tees, and are looking forward to welcoming Laurence home to celebrate!
